Thanks everyone for your participation!

The department of our own school board who want to make sure that own schools become more and more equitable are encouraging us to see Barack Obama's inaugural speech.

It is said, on their website:

"The events south of the border give us cause to celebrate the triumph of human decency over personal attack, social justice over implicit bias, and hope over fear. I believe that out of this unique experience comes an appreciation that difference is the lifeblood of a dynamic society. We do not merely tolerate diversity, but accept, respect, and celebrate it, recognizing that in an increasingly global society, it is our diversity that will be the underpinning of our social and economic success. Are we up to the challenge of addressing the attitudes, beliefs, and actions we know create barriers for certain segments of our population in order to inspire success in our most marginalized students? ---YES WE CAN!!"

I have dream that I
Can be like Barack Obama
He is the first black president
My favorite president
Whenever my mother is sad
She just listens to his speech
Then my mother will shoot right back up.
I know that he can change America and be a better president than
George Bush
I’d be just like him so I can make my mother happy and proud of me.
That is why I like Barack Obama.

Using raser the quote means to me that these great people helped end racism and set us free. Some proof is Rosa Park sat on the white side of the bus and got arrested, which made Mr.King get inspired. Then Mr.King made peace walks that helped end racism so black people could vote. This allowed Obama to run for president and he won, that gave people freedom. This reminds me of the time I learned about Mr.King and how he went on those dangerous peace walks just like the quote said about Mr.King when he walked. Now I understand that people used their lives to help others.

I THINK THAT THIS POEM REALLY STICKS UP FOR ALL BLACK PEOPLE AND I THINK THAT THIS POAM MEANS TO ME IN A WAY THAT IF THEY DIDENT THEN THIS WORLED WOULD BE A DISASTER THER WOULD BE SO MANY WARS THAT IT WOULD KILL ALL OF US.

This quote means that all the poeple in the quote help free us all. I know this because in the text it said, "Rosa Park sat," which means, she sat in the front of the bus to free us from the bus law, and when it said, "Martin Luther King walk," which means he did the freedom walk to free us. Finally when is said, "Obama ran," it meant Obama tan for president to free us all. This reminds me of a teacher reading about rosa Parks and how she got rid of the bus law. this also reminds me of a movie about Martin Luther King and the freedom walk, and finally thes reminds me of when I heard Obama won the election and this also reminds me of his speech. Now I unederstand that all the people in this quote help set us free, and also made more peace in the world in a good way.

This quote means to me that each person did or acieved something so that something so that they can grant some freedom to some else.In the text, it said that Rosa Parks sat on a seat where a white man wanted to sit and that inspirered Martin Luther King to walk the peace walk. That inspiered Obama to run for president, and having Barack Obama as president might give us some more freedom. This reminds me of the time when my two friends became candidates for class president but they got into a fight and one of them started spreading rumors about the other candidate. At the end of the election, the friend who was spreading the rumors won but we regreted voting for her because she became a bad president. Now I understand that all these people did something or achieved something that inspiered others to follow their dreams and give others the freedom they need or deserve. The big idea is that every person who wanted freedom, did and achieved some thing that inspiered others to help others get their freedom.

This quote means to me that each of the people that was mentioned made a difference in our world.
In the text it said that Rosa Parks sat on the bus so that Martin Luther King jr. could walk, and Martin Luther King walked so that Barack Obama could run (For President)Obama ran so that we could fly.I think its means that a few people can change the world for all of us!

I am from Tanzania. I got here in Canada two years ago.
In that time I learned a lot of English to go with my Swahili. I think white people and black people should all sit together. Now white people and black people play in the park together. I think this is good. Rosa Parks helped people! It is so important that a black person got to be president of America.

I think that the quote by jay.Z is great because all the people that was in the quote made a difference in the world.I know this because in the text it said Rosa parks sat so Martin lurther king could walk. Marther luther king walked so obama couldrun. obama ran so we can fly.

This quote to me means that Rosa Parks sat when she was asked to give up her seat on the bus to another man, because she was black. Martin Luther King could walk because he didn’t like how the bus driver was so racist, Martin Luther King also walked so all the black people could be respected and be as equal as the white people and have all the same rights as the white people. Martin Luther King walked to bring freedom to all black people which inspired Barack Obama to run for president, so he can go down in history as the first black, African American president of USA. This reminds me of this movie when two girls were really good friends, but their dads wouldn’t let them play or hang out together because they were not the same color. Now I understand that you could accomplish anything if you focus, pay attention and try your best. Hana, Grade 5

I think the quote means that we are different in a way because of Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King jr. and Obama. The words we can all fly mean that we persevere and think about everyone and that changes the world in important ways. That is what the quote means. Nadia, grade 5

I think that this quote is trying to say that men or woman we can all run for president, prime minister, and government. And also I think this quote is saying that when Barack Obama ran so we can fly, that is saying we can all run for president. Faysal, grade 5

Think the quote means these people are the people that changed
our lives. Also these people are going to help us in our future.
Plus they all had hard lives but they don’t want us to have a
hard life. This reminds me of when my mom reminded me
of Obama. Now we know this quote is important because
these people changed our lives.
Mahara, grade 4

This means to me that Rosa Parks sat because she didn’t wanted to save a seat for a white man. That helped Martin Luther King walk and he thought about how people were being treated unfairly. Then he fought for their rights. Obama ran so he can get an opportunity to run to be the president and think how people are still being mistreated. After his speech people were amazed. We fly because we children will make a huge different in the future.
I get treated differently because people think I’m just a girl, but it doesn’t mean I’m weak. I know I’m a person that LOVES being active.
Now I learned that people should treat each other the same way they want to be treated. What I reflect from my past is that everyone should be treated the same.
Varda, grade 5

I think this quote means that if you help people everyone will be a winner. I think this because Rosa Parks gave Martin Luther King the courage to stand up and get on his feet. This reminds me when I saw some kids making fun of a boy because he was a different skin color, I thought that is not fair because everyone is the same.
Raad, grade 4

I think this quote means that Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a different colored person because she had the right to and Martian Luther King spread all his meaning full words for everyone to hear so they can stop racism. Obama ran for president so he can make peace and history. Obama made history so we can all live peacefully.
Hajera, grade 5

I think the quote means to fight for peoples rights. Rosa Parks never gave up her seat so she was fighting her rights. Martin Luther King had good speeches so he can get equal rights for the world.
Stephon

I think the speech is about people having confidence in yourself. I also think it means that you should have a good life even if things are not going good. Another thing that
the speech means to me is that you should always try with your best ability even if
you’re not good at something. This reminds of the school theme of the month, teamwork. Now if I’m not good at something, I will still try my hardest. Matthew, grade 5

To me this quote means that I should stand up for my rights and other people’s rights too. Rosa Parks never gave up her seat because she was standing up for her rights. She was inspiring other people to do that too. Obama’s speeches were reflected to other people and got them excited because he tried his best and overcame racism. This reminds me of when Jessie Jackson tried to run but he lost. I learned that when you speak up you inspire people. Raheim, grade 4

I think that this quote means that since blacks made history, then we should know all about it. Obama changed the world by being a black man that tried to make history. I think that Nelson Mandela School should show appreciation. I think that we should thank the people that gave their lives for a black president in the U.S. This reminds me of the people that fought for black rights.
Davante, grade 4

I think that the quote means that you should fight for the things you believe in and to never give up, because if you give up you will not make change. Since Obama ran I think that we flew, meaning Americans have a better President and they are free. Jade, grade 5

I think the quote means that whatever you set your mind to do you will sometimes succeed or sometimes you won’t. Not everyone will put in the effort to try again if they
don’t get to where they want to go. The quote is also about trying hard and not giving up.
Look at Rosa Parks, she never gave up to sit at the front of the bus. And Martin Luther King never gave up to sit at the lunch table. So basically it means not to give up.
Trené, grade 4

Dear Rosa,
It ment to me that it would have been hard to give up your seat to a white man and have been arrested. It’s good how you fought for your rights and did the right thing it would have taken a lot of courage to do that. Tiffani
