What I saw, heard and felt....
Last night, March 29, 2008, I had guests over for dinner. We were all having a splendid conversation when, at about 7:45, I excused myself and began lighting candles and turning off lights. We left the dinner table, dessert unfinished, and went out to our balcony to look south towards Regent Park to the left and downtown to the right. There were at least 2 helicopters circling overhead for the whole 20 minutes that stood watching. I thought about them high above the city recording the twinkling windows as they changed to black, but also wondered about the fuel those helicopters were burning. At 8:00, the sun had not yet completely left the scene so the sky was only dusky as the big towers started to blink out. The C.N. biggest tower of all, stopped its rainbow-rhythm, and darkened to a skinny silhouette. Regent Park's shorter buildings lost lots of their bright windows, too, and I was glad that most of the children behind those windows knew why! The shorter view from my balcony looks out at a narrow alley-way, and my neighbours just across the lane have a three-story building with a giant orange (plastic?) electric palm tree blinking happily, jokingly on its roof. They were having a grand old party up there last night, with guests in elegant clothes, smoke rising from a busy barbeque and clinking glasses. As lights everywhere dimmed, and the sky joined in, I watched that perky pumped-up palm and thought of calling over to ask them to shut it off! Didn't have to, though! The next minute the neighbour walked away from his guests, stepped inside and the tree was doused. They all broke out in cheers, to which we added ours from our somewhat quieter, less splashy party headquarters!
I've heard people say that Earth Hour is hogwash, that one hour won't make a useful dent in the wasteful, reckless excesses of earth-dwellers everywhere. Other people say that every moment each of us directs our thoughts to solutions, we get a step closer to the innovation that hasn't even been conceived yet. I just know that I felt a lift as I thought about so many, many other human beings offering up the very same symbolic hope that I was at the very same time last night, during Earth Hour. What happens next is up to us all.....Good luck, each and every one!

During that hour my family turned off our lights and we started to light candles. I was very happy that it was earth hour because then at can look outside and see all the other lights that have been turned off. We also didn't turn on the water and the rice cooker was turned off. The sky looked very. I hope everyone turned off their lights too! ^^
I never did any thing for earth hour. I dont remember what I was doing instead. Gavin
On Earth Hour I felt like I was doing something good for our world. My brother said he was scared, and my dad told us scary stories. On Earth Hour I was on the phone with my best friend. My best friend was at my house, it was awsome! I looked out my back door, and almost the hole city had there lights off.

I forget about earth hour sorry world.
I turned off all my lights except my computer and tv. When I was finsh on the computer and with the tv I turned it off and lit up candles.
I am sorry earth hour I forgot.
I turned off my lights....
My family closed down all the lights and my grandma pulled the plug to our refridgerator and after the hour, everything turned bad. I didn't see any thing becase my mom told us to sleep early. I felt that we should do this more often because for dinner we had pasta and we got to save more energy. The next day my mom yelled at my grandma for wasting all the food.
I saw a lot of lights off like about 80% off. I hope everybody in the world does this so we can save a lot more energy than ever.
My family did do earth hour but I think 9% is pretty small amout elecithy saved i think we can do better
I tured off all the lights on earth
hour and my dad heard that there was a concert going on somewhere
in celabrate of earth hour so we went there by the time we got there,it was nine thirty, we were expecting to hear music but nothing was there! So we went home very dissapointed.
i never participated beacause i was in my grandmas house
I think earth hour was about to help save electicity and it worked
and it can help to stop globle
warming.
I hope that we will have antoher earth hour. I hope that we save energy. A lot of people turn off energy. Only one city made this up and it went threw the world. On tv i seen that there was only street lights and the consert. One building said 60 on it. It was amazing , i wonder that how much energy did we save? I hope we do this again!
I turned off all the lights i wasnt using last night like the kitchen lights, bathroom, and my bedroom lights. i also think that the bit of energy we saved is not enough. I also think that the little bit of energy we saved wasnt that much .
I left my lights of for three hours becase i think it is realy inportant becase when i herd the news it said somthing about a flood so i got scared so i told my mom and dad and so they said that on earth day we were going to save a lot more electricity.
i think that the people should turn off the tv and the game&computer&labtop because globle wraming is a good thing to dow because if there a blackout and you say man why did the power came off because you and us anta saveing no power that is why you are waysting the power we need to keep the power the power is a good thing to dow because we need the power no realy
im so happy for the people did there part in the earth hour
jahvante

I think earth hour was fun because frist of all I turned off all the lights and then me and my mom told some storys to my little sisters and brothers.
Earth hour was fun!
Eartg hour was really fun but i was not in the city to do it i was at one of my uncles friends houses in the country... It was really fun. We all even kept the lights of for another half hour :) it was great.
I was on Deb's balcony with her during Earth Hour. We had crept up the stairs since we had shut off the lights. It was a thrill when that palm tree went dark!
I think it has done a lot for the city and for the world, because if you didn't turn off your lights, do you know how bad that would be for the world, city and everyone, even you. You can't tell me that Earth Hour did nothing for you, because Toronto people turned off their lights for the world AND for YOU! To me it was very important. If there was no Earth Hour, there would be so much pollution, and there would be serious damage to the whole world!
Our city looks beatiuful with out lights.
